These questions ask us to determine whether given transformation is linear or not. How do we determine that? 2.1.1 $y_{1}=2x_{2} $ $y_{2}=x_{2}+2 $ $y_{3}=2x_{2} $

Linear transformations will have each row expressed as a sum of scalar multiples of each variable. e.g. x + 3y - 2z. If you see a constant added, like x + 1, then the matrix is another kind of matrix but not linear. another thing that would indicate a matrix is not linear is if variables are exponentiated or multiplied by other varialbes.

If I understand correctly, though, a nonlinear transformation is not directly representable by matrix multiplication.
